Types of Requests

UW-Superior offers several options for students, faculty, and staff to obtain materials not available on our campus.

Universal Borrowing (UB)
This service allows you to request books from other UW Libraries.  It is the fastest and most efficient way to get books not held in the JDH Library and you can easily renew materials.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
JDH Library uses ILLIAD as its tracking system for InterLibrary Loan.  With ILL you can request books that are not available at any other UW Library.  You may also request journal articles that are not available in fulltext through any of UW-Superiors online databases or print journals. How long you can checkout materials or renew materials is limited by the library we borrow from.

General Information

You can place both UB and ILL requests yourself, or library staff will assist you if needed. Contact Reference at 394-8341or Interlibrary Loan at 394-8130 or send email to Reference from Ask a Librarian or to the Interlibrary Loan staff at ill@uwsuper.edu

For all requests, you will need your UWS ID number.  Enter all 16 digits, without spaces. You will also be asked to put in your last name.

Notification for all requests is on your campus e-mail. Contact the Technology Help Desk at 394-8300 if you do not know how to use your campus e-mail.

The same procedures used for requesting books are also used for videos, recordings, or other material. Non-print items may be harder to get than print materials because some libraries do not loan out AV materials or have more restrictions on loans.

With your UW-Superior ID card you may check out books from WITC, St. Scholastica, UMD, Fond-du-Lac Tribal and Community College, and Lake Superior College.

Distance Learning Students: Please refer to our Distance Learning Library guide for additional assistance.
